Presentation on the theme of the fifty-sixth session of the Economic Commission for Africa (agenda item 5) | Wednesday, 28 February : Meeting of The Committee of Experts

A representative of the secretariat will give a brief presentation to introduce the theme of the fifty-sixth session, “Financing the transition to inclusive green economies in Africa: imperatives, opportunities and policy options”, drawing on the issues paper, which is focused on mobilizing green and development finance to enable the transition in Africa to climate-resilient and inclusive green economies and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and the goals of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, of the African Union. It will also include key strategies to: leverage private sector investment; facilitate effective domestic resource mobilization; ensure sustainable debt practices; use green bonds; and adopt the Sustainable Budgeting Approach. Policy options that encompass reforming the global financial architecture, boosting private sector participation, exploring innovative financial tools, implementing the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area and fostering regional and global cooperative initiatives will also be considered. The presentation will be followed by a general discussion.
