Africa has the fastest growing youthful and increasingly educated workforce in the world and among the fastest growing high education sectors – rising from 2.2. million university students in 1991 to about 20 million in 2015) and boasted some 643 tech hubs in 2019 – up from 422 in 2018. The number and size of universities and research centres, and also of technology firms, have grown rapidly over the last decade.
